African Centre for Media and Information Literacy (AFRICMIL) and National Association of Judiciary Correspondents (NAJUC) have agreed to work together on areas that would mutually benefit both parties as well promote and protect democratic governance in Nigeria.

The partnership was agreed upon during a courtesy visit to AFRICMIL’s office in Abuja by the Executive members of the association.

In his opening remark, the chairman of NAJUC, Kayode Lawal, stated that the association collaborates with all media organizations in the country. He also said that they wish to workwith AFRICMIL to see if they can help in anyway and also to gain experience and training from them. He stated that the association is currently made up of 53 members and will be having their yearly conference sometime in December. He said the association would be most grateful for AFRICMIL’s support towards a successful conference

The coordinator of AFRICMIL, Dr. Chido Onumah, in his response, promised that the collaboration will be beneficial to all the parties involved. He stated that over the years, AFRICMIL has been working with different organizations including civil societies and that the organisation was the first to test the efficacy of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) which was passed in 2011.

He informed the visitors that AFRICMIL has been working over the years to raise awareness on whistleblowing as a good governance tool and pushing for the passage of the whistleblower protection law. Onumah said he is confident thatthe partnership with NAJUC will help in that regard. He stated that while AFRICMIL will be readily available to help theassociation with any information they may need, he hoped that they will lend their voice and support to the campaign for the passage of the whistleblower law.

Lawal, expressed gratitude for the reception and promised that the association’s members will always respond whenever they are called upon.
